This article is about Arch Linux on a Lenovo ThinkPad x1 Carbon Gen 13.

Accessibility

The firmware is GUI-based. It supports keyboard navigation as well as mouse navigation. To access firmware settings, press F1 while the computer is starting. The firmware provide an audio cue to indicate that it has entered the settings menu. There are no accessibility-specific options or modes available.

Note Blind users may need to request the help of a sighted person to change firmware settings.

OCR assistive tools might struggle with presenting the UI's layout in a useful way for navigation.

The default text size is a little larger than average. The background color is white, and the selected menu option is highlighted with a thin blue colored dashed box.

Disabling Secure Boot

  1. Power on the system, or press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reset if it is already running.
  2. Press F1 until the audio cue.
  3. Wait a couple of seconds.
  4. Press 4x Down to highlight the Security tab.
  5. Press Enter to display the Security menu content.
  6. Press Tab to enter the menu on the right side.
  7. Press 9x Down to select Secure Boot sub-menu
  8. Press Enter to enter the sub-menu.
  9. Press 2x Down to select the Secure Boot toggle button.
  10. Press Enter to enable/disable secure boot.
  11. Press F10 to save and exit.

Selecting a boot device

  1. Power on the system, or press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reset if it is already running.
  2. While the system is starting press F12 until the audio cue indicate it will enter the one time boot menu.
  3. Pressing Down the number of time required to select your usb, the first press will select the first entry in the list.
  4. Press Enter to select the entry. The USB should be at the bottom of the list, below the already installed OSes and the internal SSD.

Firmware

fwupd supports updating the UEFI BIOS out of the box.

Audio

This laptop requires sof-firmware in order to make the sound card working. See Sound Open Firmware.

Fingerprint reader

The fingerprint reader works out of the box using fprintd. See Fprint.
